On 30 July, VIC naturalist Brian McAllister led a nature walk on the Boreal Life Trail, focusing on the plants and birds found in an Adirondack boreal forest. One of the highlights of the walk was a chance to view a large group of young birds on the platform overlooking Barnum Pond; we had some excellent, close-up views of entire families of juvenile Palm Warblers, Nashville Warblers, Black-capped Chickadees, and Magnolia Warblers.

We saw or heard the following birds on our walk:

Golden-crowned Kinglet Black-capped Chickadee
Dark-eyed Junco Red-Breasted Nuthatch
Yellow-rumped Warbler Palm Warbler
Nashville Warbler Blue-headed Vireo
Magnolia Warbler

We saw the following plants in bloom, in bud or in fruit on the upland section of the Boreal Life Trail:

Dewdrop Whorled Wood Aster
Common Wood Sorrel Dwarf Rattlesnake Plantain
Indian Pipe Creeping Snowberry
Helleborine Orchid
