Nature Walk
30 July 2012
On 30 July, VIC naturalist Brian McAllister led a nature walk on the Boreal Life Trail, focusing on the plants and birds found in an Adirondack boreal forest. One of the highlights of the walk was a chance to view a large group of young birds on the platform overlooking Barnum Pond; we had some excellent, close-up views of entire families of juvenile Palm Warblers, Nashville Warblers, Black-capped Chickadees, and Magnolia Warblers.
We saw or heard the following birds on our walk:
Golden-crowned Kinglet | Black-capped Chickadee |
Dark-eyed Junco | Red-Breasted Nuthatch |
Yellow-rumped Warbler | Palm Warbler |
Nashville Warbler | Blue-headed Vireo |
Magnolia Warbler |
We saw the following plants in bloom, in bud or in fruit on the upland section of the Boreal Life Trail:
Dewdrop | Whorled Wood Aster |
Common Wood Sorrel | Dwarf Rattlesnake Plantain |
Indian Pipe | Creeping Snowberry |
Helleborine Orchid |
