Nature Walk
10 July 2012
On 10 July, VIC naturalist Sarah Keyes led a nature walk focused on Adirondack wetlands. We focused on three different types of wetlands: marsh, bog, and swamp. The walk covered the Heron Marsh Trail, the old Blue Dot Trail, the Barnum Brook Trail, and the Boreal Life Trail. Highlights of the walk included some excellent views of a Common Yellowthroat on the margins of Heron Marsh, from an overlook. We also observed a host of Ebony Jewelweed damselflies fluttering around the bridge over Barnum Brook.
On the Heron Marsh Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:
Red-eyed Vireo | Black-capped Chickadee |
Common Yellowthroat | Swamp Sparrow |
Hermit Thrush | Blue Jay |
Ovenbird |
On the Barnum Brook Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:
Common Yellowthroat | Black-throated Green Warbler |
Northern Parula | Magnolia Warbler |
Broad-winged Hawk | Winter Wren |
Hermit Thrush |
On the Boreal Life Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:
Black-throated Blue Warbler | Hermit Thrush |
Nashville Warbler | Black-throated Green Warbler |
Golden-crowned Kinglet | Blue-headed Vireo |
Hermit Thrush | American Crow |
Northern Parula |
We also observed a number of wildflowers in bloom:
