Adirondack Birding Center Director Brian McAllister led a bird walk on the Heron Marsh Trail and the Boreal Life Trail on 6 July 2013. The walk was part of the "TR" Birding Series. The walk began at 9:00 AM, when we met in the VIC building at the Paul Smith's College VIC. It was a warm day after several weeks of rainy weather. We saw or heard a total of 18 birds. Highlights of the walk included some good views of an Osprey being chased by several Red-winged Blackbirds over Heron Marsh. We also watched a recently-fledged Black-throated Blue Warbler being fed by its mother, as well as a family of Golden-crowned Kinglets.

On the Heron Marsh Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Osprey Red-winged Blackbird
White-throated Sparrow Swamp Sparrow
Winter Wren Northern Parula
Mallard Common Yellowthroat
Black-capped Chickadee American Robin


On the Boreal Life Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

American Robin Black-capped Chickadee
Red-eyed Vireo Northern Parula
Hermit Thrush Winter Wren
Black-throated Green Warbler White-throated Sparrow
Black-throated Blue Warbler Ovenbird
Northern Flicker Palm Warbler
Golden-crowned Kinglet  


We also observed the following wildflowers and shrubs in bloom:

Yellow Pond Lily White Water-lily
Common Wood Sorrel Partridgeberry
Sheep Laurel Pitcher Plant
Grass Pink White Fringed Orchid
Rose Pogonia
