Adirondack Birding Center Director Brian McAllister led a bird walk on the Barnum Brook Trail and the Boreal Life Trail on 29 June 2013. The walk was part of the "TR" Birding Series. The walk began at 9:00 AM, when we met in the VIC building at the Paul Smith's College VIC. It was a cool, rainy day after over a week of rain. We saw or heard a total of 22 birds. Highlights of the walk included some excellent views of a Common Yellowthroat, nesting on the edge of Heron Marsh. We also had a fleeting glimpse of one of the resident beavers on Heron Marsh.

In the parking lot and near the VIC building, we saw or heard the following birds:

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Cedar Waxwing
Black-capped Chickadee American Robin
Blue Jay  

On the Barnum Brook Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Northern Parula Common Yellowthroat
Mallard Red-winged Blackbird
Swamp Sparrow Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Wood Duck Blue Jay
Blue-headed Vireo Magnolia Warbler
White-throated Sparrow Lincoln's Sparrow
Purple Finch Winter Wren
Golden-crowned Kinglet Hermit Thrush
Black-throated Blue Warbler  


On the Boreal Life Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Winter Wren Nashville Warbler
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Hermit Thrush
Ovenbird Blackburnian Warbler

We also observed the following wildflowers and shrubs in bloom or in bud:

Blue Flag Iris Yellow Pond Lily
Twinflower Pitcher Plant
Grass Pink White Fringed Orchid
Bunchberry Sheep Laurel
Common Wood Sorrel
