On 21 June 2014, Adirondack Birding Center Director Brian McAllister led a bird walk on the Heron Marsh Trail, the Boreal Life Trail, and the Loggers Loop Trail. The walk was part of the "TR" Birding Series. The walk began at 9:00 AM, when we met in the VIC building at the Paul Smith's College VIC. It was a cool, overcast morning. We saw or heard a total of 36 bird species.  Highlights of the walk included some excellent views of a Belted Kingfisher, hovering over Heron Marsh, and a Great Blue Heron and American Bittern, overflying the marsh. We also had some nice views of an Eastern Bluebird on Barnum Bog, and a Hermit Thrush and Hairy Woodpecker on the Loggers Loop Trail.

On the Heron Marsh Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Chipping Sparrow Ovenbird
Blue-headed Vireo Red-breasted Nuthatch
Red-eyed Vireo Swamp Sparrow
Ring-necked Duck American Kestrel
Red-winged Blackbird Great Blue Heron
American Bittern Blue Jay
Wood Duck Mallard
Belted Kingfisher Northern Parula

On the Boreal Life Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Hairy Woodpecker
Blue-headed Vireo Yellow-rumped Warbler
American Robin Blackburnian Warbler
Nashville Warbler White-throated Sparrow
Palm Warbler Lincoln's Sparrow
Eastern Bluebird Purple Finch
Black-capped Chickadee Winter Wren
Brown Creeper Black-capped Chickadee
Alder Flycatcher  

On the Loggers Loop Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Black-throated Blue Warbler Black-throated Green Warbler
Hermit Thrush Winter Wren
American Robin Hairy Woodpecker
Ovenbird Blackburnian Warbler

We also observed some early summer-flowering wildflowers and flowering shrubs in bloom, including:

Grass Pink Cotton Grass
Pitcher Plant White Water-lily
Bunchberry Labrador Tea
Common Wood Sorrel Spreading Dogbane
Yellow Pond Lily Indian Cucumber-root
Wild Raisin
