Adirondack Birding Center Director Brian McAllister led a bird walk on the Boreal Life Trail on 27 July 2013. The walk was part of the "TR" Birding Series. The walk began at 8:30 AM, when we met in the VIC building at the Paul Smith's College VIC. It was a cool, sunny morning with brilliant blue skies. We saw or heard a total of 23 birds. Highlights of the walk included some excellent views of a wave of warblers, including a Blackburnian Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Northern Parula, and Ovenbird -- all feeding enthusiastically on the margins of the VIC parking lot (always a birding hot spot). We also saw a family of Merlins on Barnum Bog and a muskrat swimming up Barnum Brook.

Near the VIC building and parking lot, we saw or heard the following birds:

Black-capped Chickadee Red-Breasted Nuthatch
Blue-headed Vireo Cedar Waxwing
Yellow-rumped Warbler Red-eyed Vireo
Northern Parula Hermit Thrush
Ovenbird Blackburnian Warbler
Hairy Woodpecker American Robin
Ruby-throated Hummingbird Blue Jay

On the Boreal Life Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Blue-headed Vireo Red-eyed Vireo
Black-capped Chickadee Winter Wren
Black-throated Blue Warbler Hermit Thrush
Golden-crowned Kinglet Red-Breasted Nuthatch
White-throated Sparrow Alder Flycatcher
Cedar Waxwing Merlin
Swamp Sparrow Black-throated Green Warbler
Blackburnian Warbler Red-Breasted Nuthatch
Hairy Woodpecker Common Yellowthroat

We also observed the following wildflowers in bloom:

Pickerelweed Pitcher Plant
Indian Pipe Swamp Candles
