On 14 June 2014, Adirondack Birding Center Director Brian McAllister led a bird walk on the Boreal Life Trail and the Barnum Brook Trail. The walk was part of the "TR" Birding Series. The walk began at 9:00 AM, when we met in the VIC building at the Paul Smith's College VIC. It was a cloudy, cool morning. We saw or heard a total of 30 bird species.  Highlights of the walk included excellent views of a Hermit Thrush on the Boreal Life Trail and a Lincoln's Sparrow on Barnum Bog.

In and around the VIC parking lot, we saw or heard the following birds:

Black-throated Green Warbler Ovenbird
Black-capped Chickadee Yellow-rumped Warbler
Blackburnian Warbler American Robin
Northern Parula Red-breasted Nuthatch
Red-eyed Vireo Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Ruby-throated Hummingbird Cedar Waxwing
Magnolia Warbler Chipping Sparrow

On the Boreal Life Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Northern Parula Ovenbird
Blackburnian Warbler Black-capped Chickadee
Hermit Thrush White-throated Sparrow
Nashville Warbler Common Raven
Purple Finch Northern Flicker
Lincoln's Sparrow Magnolia Warbler
Blue-headed Vireo Black-throated Green Warbler
Winter Wren Golden-crowned Kinglet
Black-throated Blue Warbler  

On the Barnum Brook Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Hermit Thrush
Turkey Vulture Red-winged Blackbird
Swamp Sparrow Common Yellowthroat
Wood Duck Red-eyed Vireo
Alder Flycatcher  

We also observed the following shrubs and wildflowers in bloom or bud:

Clintonia Buckbean
Bunchberry Wild Sarsaparilla
Cotton Grass Pitcher Plant
Canada Mayflower Labrador Tea
Pink Lady's Slipper Yellow Pond Lily
Blue Flag Iris Twinflower
