Adirondack Birding Center Director Brian McAllister led a bird walk on the Jenkins Mountain Trail , the Boreal Life Trail, and the Barnum Brook Trail on 12 September 2012. The walk was part of the "TR" Birding Series. The walk began at 8:30 AM, when we met in the VIC building at the Paul Smith's College VIC. We saw or heard a total of 25 birds. Highlights of the walk included some excellent views of a Belted Kingfisher hovering like a hummingbird over Heron Marsh, then repeatedly diving for fish. His hunting efforts were interrupted by a Merlin, which went after him. We also got a glimpse of the Great Blue Heron on Heron Marsh and good views of a Pileated Woodpecker on the Jenkins Mountain Trail.

In the parking lot and near the VIC building, we saw or heard the following birds:

Blue Jay Mourning Dove
Brown Creeper Blue-headed Vireo
Black-throated Green Warbler Northern Flicker
Chipping Sparrow Golden-crowned Kinglet
Black-capped Chickadee Red-Breasted Nuthatch
American Crow American Goldfinch

On the Jenkins Mountain Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Black-throated Blue Warbler Black-capped Chickadee
Blue-headed Vireo Hermit Thrush
Winter Wren American Goldfinch
Red-eyed Vireo Hairy Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker White-throated Sparrow
Hermit Thrush Red-Breasted Nuthatch

On the Barnum Brook Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Winter Wren American Black Duck
Swamp Sparrow Belted Kingfisher
Merlin Great Blue Heron
Black-capped Chickadee Mallard
