The Paul Smith’s College VIC will host a Juried Art Show from 27 June through 25 July 2014. An artist reception will be held on 27 June from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  The theme of the show will be “Life on the Lakes.”

Judges – Shawn Halperin and Burdette Parks

The VIC has invited Shawn Halperin and Burdette Parks to select the items to be hung for the show.  They will award a “Best in Show,” “Best Photo,” “Best Painting,” and “Honorable Mention” prize. We will also award a “People’s Choice” Award from the “Life on the Lakes “show at the conclusion of the juried art show.   People visiting the VIC will purchase ballots and vote on their favorite artwork in the show. All proceeds will go toward developing arts programming at the VIC.

Shawn L. Halperin

Shawn L Halperin lives in Lake Clear and is a member of NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery in Saranac Lake. She was the Best in Show winner of “Life on the Lakes” in 2012 and most recently accepted into the “Made in NY” Juried Exhibit at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, New York. She graduated with a BFA from Syracuse University with a concentration in mixed media sculpture and has been a working artist in the region for the past 15 years. Her works include mixed media collage, oil on canvas, carved cedar bowls and unique handmade frames. A broad range of her work can be seen at: www.shawnlewishalperin.com.

Burdette Parks

Burdette Parks was born and educated in North Dakota and received a BA in Theater Arts from the University of North Dakota. Specializing in fine art and landscape/nature work, Burdette has exhibited in multiple juried shows in the Adirondack region and has been in numerous solo and group shows. Photographs of his were awarded Best of Show in ACNA's 2009 Cover Art competition, an Honorable Mention in their 2011 show and First Place in LPCA's 2013 Black and White competition.  Burdette has been teaching photography workshops and tutoring since 2006. He serves on the Executive Committee of Saranac Lake ArtWorks and has been an exhibiting member of the Adirondack Artists' Guild in Saranac Lake for twelve years. He has paddled eight and a-half 90 Milers.

Explore the Trails

The VIC trails are free and open to the public, from dawn to dusk, spring through fall. In winter, the trails are open to cross-country skiers and snowshoers for a fee. Day or season passes may be purchased.
