Art at the VIC: Indigenous
The Paul Smith's College VIC will host an exhibit, "Indigenous," by photographer Jon Chodat of Malone and painter Diane E. Leifheit of Gabriels from September 16 to October 15. A meet-the-artists reception is scheduled for Sunday, September 18 from 3 to 5 PM.
"Indigenous" is comprised of the works of the two artists' views of the regional environment.
- Chodat's photographs display an acute level of observation; from a hummingbird hovering within the flashy red of a monarda flower to the stillness of the Great Blue Heron waiting for dinner in the reflected gold of an autumn river. Chodat says of his work, "My work is what I have a passion for." Jon's work has been shown regionally from Lake Placid Center for the Arts to studios in Malone. He has accrued several awards for his careful and intense photos.
- Leifheit's pastel paintings glow with the soft representation of the subtle landscape showing meadows, streams and trees with an impressionist's eye to light. Leifheit has been a member of the Adirondack Artists Guild for 9 years. Diane shows her work at the Guild on Main Street in Saranac Lake on a year-round basis. "I've focused my work on where I live in the northern Adirondacks. It is no accident that several pieces represent the VIC. It is my back yard." said Leifheit.
