Plein Air Paints the VIC

The Paul Smiths VIC will once again be a featured location for the Adirondack Plein Air Festival, held this year from 21 - 24 August. Friday, 22 August is "Paint the VIC" day, when artists will take advantage of the natural settings on various VIC trails: mountains, old growth forest, bogs, streams, marsh, beaver lodges, and Adirondack lean-tos. Spectators are welcome throughout the day. Free.

Adirondack Plein Air Festival LogoA reception for an exhibit of plein air paintings will also be held that evening (22 August) at the VIC, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served at the reception.

The festival itself begins 21 August with the "Paint the Town" event, "Paint the VIC" on 22 August, "Paint the Adirondacks" on 23 August, and a Show & Sale in the Town Hall from 12 - 4 PM on 24 August. Paint the Adirondacks Workshop
19-20 August 2014

Prefestival events include a workshop at the VIC -- Paint the Adirondacks -- led by internationally acclaimed artist/instructor Gayle Levée.  She will demonstrate and teach you the most important concepts of painting this challenging subject. With an emphasis on color, brushwork and composition, Levée will teach you how to understand the mountains and the way light plays on their forms.

The Paul Smiths VIC offers a wide variety of programs throughout the year to educate and inform Adirondack Park residents and visitors about the natural wonders of the Adirondack Mountains. Explore the Trails

The VIC trails are free and open to the public, from dawn to dusk, spring through fall. In winter, the trails are open to cross-country skiers and snowshoers for a fee. Day or season passes may be purchased.
