What is a paintball biathlon? Traditional biathlon is a sport where cross country skiers race on a predetermined course with a small-bore rifle (such as a .22), stop several times to shoot at a target, and then continue the cross country course. The sport is very popular in Europe.

In paintball biathlon, the young skiers do not ski the course with a firearm, like they would in a traditional biathlon. Instead, paintball guns are left at each shooting station, which is monitored by adult volunteers. Skiers are rewarded with time deductions for every target they hit.
