Intervale Lowlands Bird Walk

Larry Master led a bird walk on 8 June 2014 at Intervale Lowlands. Intervale Lowlands is a 135-acre nature preserve which includes 7,500’ of frontage on the West Branch of the Ausable River in Lake Placid, New York. With a mixture of young boreal forest, riverside shrublands, and open fields, the “preserve” is home to 15+ species of breeding warblers. The walk was part of the 2014 Great Adirondack Birding Celebration, the longest-running boreal birding festival in the Northeast. The walk began at 7:00 AM, when we met at the Iron Bridge parking area on River Road in Lake Placid. The highlight of the walk was a series of close, extended views of a Black-backed Woodpecker.
